Needs Assessments

Needs Assessments

What can a student expect of best practice?

  • To be treated in a professional and respectful manner at all times;
  • A meeting - in person - of approximately 1 ½ -2 hours with someone with knowledge, experience and interest in assisting students to find ways to manage/reduce the impact of disability on study;
  • Discussion and formulation of strategies for study, including demonstration of relevant assistive technologies;
  • Respect for confidentiality, with relevant consents required to be explained and obtained for the sole purpose of facilitating relevant support services;
  • Further correspondence/mmunication by email/telephone, (eg, liaison with other disability practitioners), as necesary;
  • Recommendations to be specific, relevant, to individual needs, of sufficient quality and duly accessible to enable/promote effective study;
  • Needs Assessment report normally forwarded to the funding body within 10 working days of meeting, unless awaiting information from student;
  • Prompt and constructive response to post-report queries, including where additional support may be required;
